    NACWA hosted a Colorado Utility Executive Forum on September 5 at member utility the City of Aurora’s Binney Water Purification Facility, bringing together 34 individuals from over 16 public utilities for a day long discussion on issues critical to Colorado and the region.

  • EPA Water Office Moves to Rescind Draft and Interim Guidance

    David Ross, head of EPA’s Office of Water, recently issued a policy memorandum rescinding any draft or interim guidance documents from the water office that were issued more than two years ago and never finalized in an effort to “increase transparency and regulatory certainty for stakeholders.”

  • New Memo Restricts Use of SEPs in Consent Decrees

    The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) released a new policy memo August 21 that significantly restricts the use of Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) in settlement agreements with state and local governments, including wet weather consent decrees. The new DOJ position comes despite strong pushback from EPA to limiting the use of SEPs.

    NACWA submitted comments August 23 to EPA on a proposed new analytical procedure for validating 24 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry analysis.

    The Senate overwhelmingly passed a resolution last week sponsored by Sens. Brown (D-OH) and Portman (R-OH) marking 50 years of environmental progress since the Cuyahoga River on June 22nd, 1969, which helped serve as the impetus for the Clean Water Act (CWA).
