‘What are the damn dollars?’ Residents demand answers about water, sewer project costs
Apr 11, 2024
TOWN OF POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - People who live along State Route 56 in the town of Potsdam want to know how much a water and sewer project will end up costing them.
More than a dozen residents vented their frustrations during a town board meeting Tuesday night.
“There has not been proper transparency, proper accountability. What are the damn dollars,” asked resident Jim Snell.
Bringing water and sewer to a section of State Route 56 was first proposed in 2013. In 2020, the town moved forward on it. Costs to do projects were lower back then.
“I do know what the estimated cost was in 2020. I think it was right before COVID. It was for water, it was $4 million, and for sewer, it was $6 million something. Now, water is $6 million something, and sewer is $8 million something,” said Marty Miller, town supervisor.
