The second-largest phase of Longwood’s Septic Tank Abatement Project is set to end next month and residents are already reporting improvements in local water quality.
Started in the spring, the Longdale phase involves removing about 219 septic tanks from homes in and around Longdale Avenue, and then hooking them up to a gravity sewer system.
“It helps us as landlords because I don’t have to worry about the septic issue,” Siudak said. “It takes something off of our plate.”
Andrew Marsian, Longwood’s utilities project manager, said the biggest reason for converting properties is to reduce the environmental impact of septic tanks.
