EPA Issues Technical Support Materials for Selenium Criteria
EPA issued several draft Technical Support Materials on October 6 to support states and authorized tribes in adopting and implementing the Agency’s 2016 recommended Aquatic Life Criterion for Selenium in Freshwater. Given the time that has passed since EPA finalized the 2016 selenium criteria and when these technical support documents were initially published, EPA has recently decided to reissue the documents and reopen an opportunity for public comment. The deadline to submit comments is December 3, 2021.
NACWA is reviewing these documents and is seeking member feedback as to whether or not to submit comments. NACWA filed comments in 2014 with EPA when the Agency was developing the now finalized selenium criteria, but the Association did not comment on the previously-issued 2016 technical support documents.
NACWA will keep the membership updated as it reviews the technical support materials. If members have particular concerns or an interest in commenting, please contact Emily Remmel, NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs.
