BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- As City Council looks ahead to its 2021 budget, Mayor Martin Horwitz puts sewers and flood control at the top of his priorities for next year.

Of course, it was acknowledged that the coronavirus pandemic could play a part in what eventually gets done.

Councilman Alec Isaacson, during an online council Finance and Insurance Committee meeting Monday (Nov. 16), asked Horwitz about his top priorities. This prompted the mayor to also mention projects such a possible new police station, ensuring that the police and fire departments are at full staffing, beautifying the city and adding signage.

“It’s storm sewers (that are the top priority), and really that’s a turnaround that just happened this year, because we’ve had such problems because of the rain,” Horwitz said after the meeting.

“We’ve had at least three major, fast rainfalls that have caused major flooding and have impacted so many homes. Council has been very cooperative in making this a priority project," he said.
