Water Sector Hosts Advocacy Webinar – Water Week Is Next Week!

Apr 24, 2020

(April 24, 2020) – NACWA joined with the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the Water Research Foundation (WRF), and the WateReuse Association to host a webinar April 22 providing an update on key clean water sector advocacy issues. The webinar also provided insights and tips for stakeholders to use in outreach to Congress on clean water issues.

Topics covered during the webinar included recent legislation around the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for continued clean water advocacy to secure funding for utilities during the next round of stimulus package discussions; progress on this year’s Water Resources Develop Act (WRDA); and anticipated congressional discussions around federal funding for the FY 2021 budget cycle.

Key funding priorities for the clean water sector including the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) and the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program were highlighted. Also discussed was the need for additional federal support to water sector research and innovation, as well as communication strategies stakeholders can use during outreach to congressional offices. Thank you to WEF for hosting this webinar.

Next week is Water Week 2020 and NACWA encourages all members to use the week as an opportunity to reach out to their federal congressional representatives in both the House and Senate to advocate for clean water sector priorities. Information and resources to help with this outreach are available on the Water Week website. NACWA also encourages all members to participate in a special Water Week webinar on April 29 from 2:00 – 3:30 PM ET featuring EPA and Congressional speakers.
