Clean Water Current

EPA announced August 16 that it received a record number of letters of interest for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program.

The Agency received 62 letters of interest, representing a collective request for $9.1 billion in funding for a wide variety of water infrastructure projects.  The requests come from 26 different US jurisdictions and cover a broad spectrum of projects, including wastewater, drinking water, water recycling, desalination, stormwater management, and combined approaches.  Many of the utilities that submitted letters of interest are NACWA members. 

NACWA has been a strong supporter of robust funding for both WIFIA and the State Revolving Funds (SRFs) and is pleased to see such interest in the WIFIA program.  The high demand reinforces the need for strong federal infrastructure funding support.  NACWA will continue work with other partners in the water sector to ensure WIFIA and the SRFs receive elevated funding levels in 2019 and beyond.
