NACWA participated in a workshop, Creating the Space to Innovate, August 1 – 2, which explored policy and regulatory changes needed to implement new technologies for wastewater utilities.

NACWA, along with a coalition representing the municipal water and wastewater sector, submitted comments to the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on August 7, focused on proposed rules that redefine “political subdivision” for the purposes of issuing tax-exempt bonds. NACWA and the coalition previously submitted comments on May 23, 2016, urging IRS and the Treasury to rescind or substantially revise the proposed regulations.

NACWA’s Board of Directors approved a number of critical advocacy initiatives last week as part of the Association’s Utility Leadership Conference, advancing advocacy priorities and positioning NACWA to fully engage in important clean water policy discussions over the coming months.
