MORRISVILLE — Universities are trying to prevent COVID-19 clusters from growing into widespread outbreaks, one way they are doing this is by testing for traces of COVID-19 in the wastewater.

SUNY Morrisville is also doing waste water testing and so far, they have not found any COVID-19.

In July, SUNY Morrisville began collecting samples of waste water to test for traces of COVID-19 on campus.

Over a 24- hour period, a pump collects samples of all the wastewater on campus and that collection is then sent to a lab in Syracuse to check for the virus.

Mark Lewis, the Maintenance Supervisor at SUNY Morrisville, says, “We test on Monday’s and Wednesday’s and take samples to the lab on Tuesday and Thursday.”

On Wednesday, they ramped up their wastewater testing even more by adding five additional collection sites throughout campus.
