NACWA Issues Statement on Exclusion of PFAS Provisions in Defense Authorization Act

(Washington, DC) – The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the recognized leader in legislative, regulatory and legal advocacy on clean water issues, today issued the following statement in response to the passage of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Adam Krantz, NACWA’s Chief Executive Officer, issued the following statement:

“Today’s passage of the NDAA illustrates Congress’s commitment to the approach grounded in risk-based scientific analysis for which NACWA and its members have advocated. By allowing the ongoing scientific and regulatory processes laid out by EPA to move forward, the agency can best determine how to protect public health and the environment through sound scientific policy while also ensuring polluters, and not ratepayers, bear the burden of mitigating PFAS risks. The NDAA is for Defense-related issues and seeking complex Clean Water Act compliance requirements for public utilities would have bypassed the appropriate procedures needed to establish sound policies. We look forward to continuing our work with Congress to further address this issue in the New Year.”
