Strategic Partnerships in Action
Brown and Caldwell (BC) facilitated a partnership between PepsiCo and the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) to help replenish the local groundwater basins and realize water independence from Colorado River import. This collaboration resulted in the construction of WRD’s first inland injection well at the Leo J. Vander Lans Advanced Water Treatment Facility in Long Beach, California, to improve drought resiliency and replenish local groundwater supplies to further establish water independence for four million LA County residents.
The project was made possible in part due to a $1.5M grant from PepsiCo as part of its PepsiCo Positive ambition, which includes the aim to reduce water use and replenish more than 100% of the water it uses in high-risk watersheds.
