Springfield water and sewer assistance available for low-income residents
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission is accepting applications for its Customer Assistance Program designed to help low-income, single-family homeowners who receive their water or sewer services from the city.
Residents applying for fuel assistance to help heat their homes may be eligible to receive a one-time water and sewer account credit of 25% of their annual water and sewer bill up to $250, officials said.
The program, based on others in the country, follows the same eligibility guidelines as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program offered through the Valley Opportunity Council for city residents. Generally, people can receive assistance if they have a household income of 60% of the state median income based on their household size.
