Grand Rapids-area water, sewer rates will increase for many in 2021
GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Grand Rapids city leaders have approved sewer and water rate increases in 2021 for nearly all residents on the city’s system.
Under the new rates, the average household in Grand Rapids will pay about $25.28 more a year for combined sewer and water services, with a total annual bill of about $863.04, according to the city’s rate study.
The sewer and water rates were unanimously approved Tuesday night, Dec. 15, by the Grand Rapids City Commission.
According to the rate study for 2021, the water system needs an additional $280,352 in revenue next year, a systemwide average increase of 0.62% on top of the current rates and charges.
The sewage disposal system needs $4,495,051 million more in revenue, an increase of 7.92%, according to the study.
