CDC Updates COVID-19 Surveillance Resources

Oct 29, 2020

(October 29, 2020) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its website earlier this week with new resources and information for COVID-19 RNA wastewater surveillance.

In what is commonly referred to as wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), CDC continues its effort to stand up the National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS) to monitor the presence and trends of COVID-19 RNA in wastewater. With this update, CDC has resources on sampling strategies, testing methods, data reporting and analytics, public health interpretation/use/communication, and targeted use cases.

NACWA is reviewing these resources currently and is encouraging members that are actively surveilling their wastewater to keep us apprised of their efforts. Please contact Emlly Remmel on NACWA staff.
