COVID-19 Talks Limp Along While Congress Focuses on Supreme Court Nomination, Upcoming Elections
(October 21, 2020) – The US Senate is focused this week on advancing the pending Supreme Court nomination and the looming Congressional and Presidential elections. Last-ditch negotiations on COVID-19 relief are also continuing as of this writing between the White House and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
NACWA staff anticipate we will see messaging efforts continue around COVID-19 relief but no major breakthroughs on legislation until after the Nov. 3rd elections. Senate Republican leadership in particular have expressed strong skepticism over any agreement the White House and Speaker Pelosi may agree to. However, NACWA continues to closely monitor discussions and engage with key congressional staff to ensure the priorities of the public clean water sector are considered if any package does come together and start to move.
