(April 30, 2019) – With strong bipartisan support, The US House of Representatives passed the Local Water Protection Act (H.R. 1331) earlier this month by a vote of 329-56.

The Act authorizes $200 million annually through Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 for the nonpoint source management grants program administered by EPA.  This program helps states develop and implement their own programs for managing nonpoint sources of water pollution, including runoff that can carry pollutants—such as fertilizers and sediment from fields, toxins from abandoned mines, and oils and heavy metals from roads—into lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water.

The next step for this legislation is consideration in the Senate.
