NACWA Security Committee Discusses Mutual Aid, Texas Case Study
(May 30, 2018) - The NACWA Security & Emergency Preparedness Committee held a web meeting on May 21 with guest speaker Mike Howe from the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), who provided a presentation on how the Texas Water & Wastewater Agency Response Network (WARN) helped utilities recover from the impacts of Hurricane Harvey.
Overall, the Texas WARN was very effective in helping utilities to restore services quickly, given the extreme amounts of rain that fell during Harvey. Texas AWWA is preparing an after-action report to analyze what worked well during the response and lessons learned that can be used in the future. The lessons from the report will help WARNs in other states to improve their programs and response capabilities.
Please contact Cynthia Finley, NACWA Director of Regulatory Affairs, if you would like to receive a copy of the slides used in the presentation or a recording of the meeting.
