NACWA Applauds Increased Water Infrastructure Funding in Congress’ Omnibus Package
(Washington, DC) – The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) applauds Congress for the significant increases for clean water infrastructure investment that are included in the proposed Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) Omnibus spending package.
Specifically: (1) The increase of $600 million for the State Revolving Funds (SRFs) – split equally between the Drinking Water SRF and the Clean Water SRF – represents the most significant new money for these programs in many years, and (2) the proposed $63 million for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) is a significant increase in funding — exceeding the previously authorized FY18 levels.
As we celebrate World Water Day today, it is fitting that Congress recognizes the need to provide additional federal investment for water infrastructure. NACWA has worked hard with its water sector partners to achieve these increased funding levels and looks forward to working with Congress to continue strengthening the SRFs and WIFIA through the rest of FY18, and on into the FY19 budget cycle.
