NACWA Shares Federal Update During Annual Stormwater Conference

Oct 9, 2025

NACWA participated in the 2025 Southeast Stormwater Association’s (SESWA) Annual Conference, held Oct. 1–3, in Hilton Head, S.C., to provide a comprehensive federal update on water-related issues and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) stormwater program priorities at the national level.

NACWA staff discussed the latest developments in stormwater policy and permitting programs, highlighting the impact of ongoing federal challenges—including the current government shutdown, funding constraints, concerns over PFAS, and EPA’s broader regulatory agenda—on stormwater utilities nationwide. NACWA helped attendees connect federal trends to the realities facing local and regional stormwater programs.

The conference featured a wide-ranging agenda focused on stormwater innovation, coastal resilience, green infrastructure, and data-driven asset planning. Attendees participated in pre-conference workshops on AI and stormwater management and heard general sessions on wetland protections and the evolution of stormwater utilities. Technical tracks explored real-time control systems, microplastic accumulation, drone inspections, and infrastructure resilience along barrier islands and transportation corridors.

NACWA is always happy to participate in local or regional conferences addressing stormwater issues. Please contact Matt McKenna, NACWA’s Director of Government Affairs, with any questions.
