NACWA Welcomes Kishia Powell as President, Convenes 51st Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony
NACWA congratulates Kishia Powell, Chief Operating Officer for DC Water, as she takes the helm of the Association as NACWA’s newly elected President for 2021-2022.
Powell was elected to the role of President, along with the slate of NACWA’s Officers for the next year, during the Board of Directors’ summer meeting on July 21. The Board, staff and entire membership look forward to Kishia’s leadership during this pivotal time as we work to advance national water policy to help create a sustainable, resilient and equitable water future.
NACWA also extends its thanks and gratitude to Terry Leeds, Director, KC Water, in Kansas City, Missouri, for his service over the past year as President.
Also on July 21, NACWA convened its Annual Association Business Meeting as a part of the Utility Leadership Virtual Event. The membership approved a slate of nominees for the Board of Directors and heard updates on NACWA’s accomplishments over the past year, as well as the Association’s finances.
Business Meeting Highlights Accomplishments and the Outlook for the Year Ahead
During the Annual Association Business Meeting, NACWA’s outgoing President, Terry Leeds, noted the many accomplishments from the past year, including the establishment and funding of the first-ever federal Low-Income Household Water Affordability program – a top NACWA priority – as well as the creation of a Board Task Force on Environmental Justice and the potential for historic investment in water infrastructure. Leeds also presented Dick Champion, past NACWA President and former long-time Director of the Independence Water Pollution Control Department in Missouri, with the President’s Award.
NACWA’s Treasurer, Tom Sigmund, Executive Director for NEW Water in Green Bay, Wisconsin, provided the report of the Treasurer, noting that the Association is in a strong financial position despite the lingering impacts of the pandemic. NACWA’s CEO, Adam Krantz, concluded the meeting with a look at the year ahead.
Also during the Board Meeting, the Board of Directors approved all recommended Targeted Action Fund (TAF) projects, FY 2022 TAF and General Fund budgets.
