EPA Rolls Out National Water Reuse Action Plan
(March 4, 2020) – After a year-long effort, EPA released the first iteration of the National Water Reuse Action Plan (WRAP) on February 27.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler, US Department of Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, US Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, and Council on Environmental Quality Chairwoman Mary Neumayr launched the WRAP amid a gathering of water sector partners.
NACWA provided input to EPA throughout the process and partnered with other water sector associations on several stakeholder outreach efforts over the year, culminating in several joint comments. NACWA has committed to leading Action 2.2.4: Enhance Wastewater Source Control through Local Pretreatment Programs to Support Water Reuse Opportunities for Municipal Wastewater and is partnering with other water sector associations on Action 2.2.9: Align Policies and Communication Tools to Promote Best Management of Unused and Expired Pharmaceuticals to Support Water Reuse and Recycling.
As an Action Leader on 2.2.4, NACWA will be discussing water reuse with the Association’s Pretreatment Committee on an upcoming conference call and at the National Pretreatment Workshop in Nashville, Tennessee May 12-15, 2020.
Members with questions on the WRAP should contact Emily Remmel, NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs. For questions on Action 2.2.4 or the National Pretreatment Workshop please contact Cynthia Finely, NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs.
