Clean Water Current

(November 20, 2019) – NACWA’s Board of Directors and leaders of the Association’s standing committees and workgroups met this week in Austin, TX for the Fall Strategic Leadership Meeting to review the Association’s current advocacy priorities, discuss where those priorities may need change moving forward, and lay the groundwork for revisions to the Association’s Strategic Plan.

The discussions were robust and productive, and the Association is moving towards publishing a revised Strategic Plan early next year. 

Following the Leadership Meeting, the full Board of Directors met for its last scheduled meeting of 2019.  As part of its deliberations, the Board approved three key advocacy items:

• Additional funding from the Association’s Targeted Action Fund (TAF) to support ongoing work clarifying the obligations/regulatory expectations for combined sewer overflow (CSO) communities that have successfully completed their long-term control plans;
• Additional TAF funding to continue the Association's participation in federal litigation over a nutrient variance in Montana that has significant national legal implications; and
• Participation in a new litigation matter going before the US Supreme Court that addresses a critical national question of whether municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) permitting authorities under the Clean Water Act can force municipal stormwater agencies to manage nonpoint stormwater runoff from sources the utility cannot control. 

The Board of Directors thanks NACWA members as always for their strong support of the Association’s initiatives and looks forward to a strong year in 2020 as NACWA celebrates its 50^th Anniversary.
