EPA Proposal to Methods Update Hits Federal Register

Oct 23, 2019

(October 23, 2019) – EPA’s proposed Methods Update Rule was published in the Federal Register on October 22. The proposed rule will update several categories, including:

  • Revising existing EPA methods;
  • New or revised methods published by Voluntary Consensus Standards Bodies (VCSB) like ASTM International or the US Geological Survey; and
  • Methods reviewed under Alternate Test Procedures (ATP).

EPA periodically updates the list of approved methods and highlights how these changes will provide the regulated community with greater flexibility while improving data quality and keeping testing methods current with technological advances.

The deadline to comment on the methods update proposal is December 23, 2019.  NACWA is currently reviewing the proposal and plans to provide comments.  If you have any questions or input, please contact Emily Remmel, NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs.
