Clean Water Sector Looks to Secure Key Funding Provisions During Senate Markup of America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020
Statement from NACWA CEO Encourages Continued Bipartisan Progress on Key Water Infrastructure Issues
(Washington, D.C.) – Wednesday morning the Senate begins its markup of the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020 (AWIA 2020) legislation, a process that has so far been defined by bipartisan cooperation in the name of providing critical funding to America’s public clean water utilities. In a statement sent to the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee last week, NACWA detailed its support and list of recommendations for the legislation, most notably an increase to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
Adam Krantz, NACWA’s Chief Executive Officer, issued the following statement:
“As the Senate begins its process of marking up the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2020, I thank members of the Environment & Public Works Committee for their bipartisan support of clean water infrastructure. But I also urge them to keep in mind the absolute necessity of clean water services during this challenging time. This bill includes robust funding reauthorizations which are greatly appreciated by the sector. However, much of this legislation was drafted prior to our current national public health crisis, and it is my hope that both houses of Congress will take into account the heightened need and appreciation for access to clean water in protecting public health and the environment in a pandemic. The funding levels in this bill should only serve as a starting point. NACWA looks forward to continuing to work with both houses of Congress as this legislation advances.”
