NACWA Outlines Clean Water Priorities for New Congress
(January 13, 2021) – The 117th Congress began on a somber and disconcerting note for the country last week. Undaunted, Members of Congress and their staff are moving forward in a bipartisan fashion with important policy work. There is hope and optimism throughout the water sector to build on the success at the end of last year and advance key clean water legislation over the next two years.
With Democrats set to control both chambers of Congress and the Presidency beginning January 20, one of the top legislative priorities on the docket is a comprehensive infrastructure bill with water included in the mix.
Initial high-level discussions between NACWA and the relevant congressional committees are underway as the Association and our water sector partners work to position clean water as a key component of any infrastructure package. NACWA will provide members with further details as they unfold in the coming weeks and months.
NACWA sent a letter earlier this week to all Members of Congress outlining NACWA’s top legislative priorities for clean water policy during the 117th Congress. NACWA strongly encourages its members to share this letter and these priorities as they engage with their respective Senators and Representatives about the importance of clean water.
NACWA would like to highlight the joint webinar we are co-hosting with the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Water Environmental Federation (WEF) on Thursday, January 28 entitled: Water Sector Priorities for the New Washington, DC: A 2021 Legislative and Regulatory Outlook. The webinar will provide a joint, in-depth outlook and discussion on the key issues, opportunities and challenges under the new Biden Administration and Congress, including how our members can best advocate and position themselves.
