Clean Water Current

(September 11, 2019) - Following the summer recess, Congress returned to Washington, D.C. this week for a busy September. As reported in last week’s Clean Water Current, several important issues including Fiscal Year 2020 federal funding, PFAS, and a 2020 Water Resources Development Act are on the horizon.

To help inform its efforts on clean water, the House of Representatives is planning a Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee hearing for Thursday, September 18th.  At the hearing, titled The Administration’s Priorities and Policy Initiatives Under the Clean Water Act, Congress will hear from Dave Ross, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Water at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency about the current water priorities of the Trump Administration.

NACWA anticipates that EPA’s actions on blending, groundwater connectivity, water reuse, nutrient management, the waters of the United States (WOTUS) rulemaking, and more will be raised by Subcommittee Members during the hearing. The Association is working to inform the Subcommittee of the public clean water sector’s perspectives on these key issues and ensure that these views are expressed by the committee members and witnesses during the hearing.  Contact Kristina Surfus, NACWA’s Legislative Director, to discuss further.
