Clean Water Current

(October 31, 2017) - Following NACWA’s annual leadership meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah last week, Association staff attended the Western Coalition of Arid States’ (WESTCAS) Fall Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.  NACWA presented an update on the collaboration with WESTCAS that resulted in the recent advocacy initiative: Incorporating Arid State and Water Quantity Priorities in NACWA’s Advocacy Agenda – a Concept Paper.

In addition to discussing the Concept Paper and next steps, the WESTCAS Fall meeting highlighted water reuse, salinity concerns, a rewriting of the “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) definition, and the role of science and policy making.  During the meeting, it became clear that the ongoing collaboration between WESTCAS and NACWA, and the role of national advocacy around arid state and similar southeastern water supply issues, have never been more important.
